Getting to the campsite from:
Saint-Jean-de-Luz train station

Getting to the campsite by car:
- From Bordeaux: take the A63 to exit 3 “Saint-Jean-de-Luz Nord”, then follow signs for “Bayonne” (D810) for 2 km to Acotz beach.
- From Toulouse: take the A64 to Bayonne, then the A63 to exit 3 “Saint-Jean-de-Luz Nord”, then follow signs for “Bayonne” (D810) for 2 km to Acotz beach.
Eco-mobility at the campsite
Once you’re settled in, you won’t really need your car anymore. That’s one of the strengths of Merko Lacarra campsite: everything the Basque Country has to offer is accessible from the campsite by low-impact travel, and it’s often much more enjoyable than driving.
The Txik Txak shuttle stops right in front of the campsite entrance every 30 minutes: Saint-Jean-de-Luz—its market, harbour and terraces—is within easy reach without having to look for parking. The coastal path takes you to Guéthary in 15 minutes on foot and to Saint-Jean-de-Luz in an hour’s walk facing the ocean—one of the most beautiful walks on the Basque Coast (bring good shoes and a camera). By bike, those same distances take just a few pedal strokes—our partner Lafitenia Bikes offers bike and e-bike rentals with delivery on site.
As for Mayarco beach, it’s 50 metres away. For morning bread, the snack bar is on site. And for longer trips (La Rhune, markets in the inland Basque Country, villages in the backcountry), TER lines and shuttles from the Transports 64 network cover the whole area.
Coming to Merko Lacarra campsite and leaving the car in the garage: it’s possible, it’s enjoyable, and it’s in the spirit of what we’ve always been trying to build here.
