A recognised environmental commitment

red line and circle

Committed to sustainable tourism, our campsite was awarded the Green Key label in 2003, then the EU Ecolabel in 2014, before receiving the sustainable tourism award in 2019. Electricity comes 100% from renewable sources, rainwater is collected and organic waste is composted on site. An insect hotel and wildflower meadows complete this approach, to preserve local biodiversity.

Our eco-friendly campsite has earned several official accreditations:

  • Green Key label, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, obtained in 2003.
  • EU Ecolabel, awarded according to European Commission criteria, obtained in 2014.
  • Sustainable Tourism Trophy received by our site.
  • Electricity sourced 100% from renewable energy.

we’ve thought of everything.

Accommodation and comfort

No, and it’s a deliberate choice. With both the Green Key and EU Ecolabel certifications, the campsite is committed every day to responsible water management (rainwater collection, water-saving devices on all taps, consumption monitoring). A swimming pool would go against this approach… especially since Mayarco Beach and the Atlantic Ocean are waiting for you just 50 metres away! To learn more about our commitments, visit our Eco-friendly page.

Yes, Wi-Fi is available on both the pitches and in the Mobile homes, so you can stay connected during your stay in the Basque Country.

Oui, notre camping accueille les familles et les enfants de tout âge, nous disposons de plusieurs espaces de jeux clôturés.
All just steps from the beaches, which are also accessible for little ones.

Yes, our nature pitches are surrounded by trees and tall hedges, so you can enjoy natural shade and privacy between each plot.

Yes, our washroom block has been completely refurbished and meets PRM accessibility standards, for comfortable access for all our visitors.

Access, transport and booking

Mayarco Beach is just 50 metres away: cross one road and your feet are in the sand. Three beaches can be reached on foot via the coastal path: Mayarco, Cenitz and Lafitenia.

Yes, a motorhome service area for €6 is reserved for our guests. Vehicles over 6 metres are only accepted with prior booking.

A bus stop is located at the entrance to our campsite, on line 16 of the Txik Txak network, making it easy to reach the centre of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and nearby towns in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

Yes, bike hire is offered by a campsite partner, available at reception—handy for getting to Saint-Jean-de-Luz or nearby villages in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

Great campsite! The area is very well maintained, spaces are large enough. Toilets and showers were very clean. The staff was mucho friendly! 🤩 The only problem was not due to the staff, but dogs are allowed and the owners don’t clean up the dog poo

Staff super friendly and helpful. Great place to camp, - one of our favorites in fact! - very close to a nice beach just over the road. Small campground shop on-site with cold drinks, snacks and a little terrace to sit. Clean bathroom facilities. Wifi was a bit weak at our pitch, but OK up by the shop.

Second time to this campsite and received such a warm welcome. This is an exceptionally well run campsite maintaining the pitches, excellent clean washing facilities and it felt a safe site for families and young children. We stayed Mid June and it was nicely busy but not full. Enjoyed the on site bar. 3 mins walk down to the beach- beach bars open there too.

One of the best sites we’ve ever stayed at, staff are very friendly, site immaculate with showers, toilets and laundry facilities spotless, quiet at night you can hear the ocean. Literally 3 minutes away from 2 beaches that are beautiful and cleaned daily, couple of small bars across the road from the campsite, regular bus service literally the entrance to campsite that will take you out and about of you wish to sightsee. I wish all sites were as good as this one…..it’s perfect and 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We staid in Camping Merko Lacarra from 2nd of April 2023 to 9 of April 2023. We camped with our tent and were 2 people. When we arrived it rained and at night it was cold outside. So we spent our evenings in the tent or in different towns. Now we know at this time of year it is too cold for camping at the Atlantic coast. 🤷‍♂️ During the day we spend a lot of time at the beach which is just next to the camping (2 min walking). Also the huge supermarket "Carrefour" is just 5 min away by car. And the owner's of the camping with their family members attended us always very kindly. Lots of good information, good WiFi solutions and very clean wash house facility! We recommend this camping :) :)

A perfect campsite!! Incredibly friendly staff, very clean facilities, quiet at night (you can hear the sea!), and beautiful surroundings. AND it is literally across the street from a fantastic beach that has lifeguards, bathrooms, and cafes. We did not miss the 'extras' of other sites like a pool etc because of how comfortable and welcome we felt. Great proximity to Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and San Sebastien as well. We were there for 2 nights (arrived without a reservation, we have a small tent) with our 10 year old twins and didn't want to leave! Highly recommend.
