The Acotz beaches and the coastal path, just steps from our campsite
3 beaches border our campsite in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in the Basque Country, all within walking distance from the pitches.
Mayarco Beach, just 50 metres away, is perfect for relaxing and for children at low tide. Cenitz Beach, 150 metres away, welcomes beginner surfers at any tide.
A little further on, 300 metres away, Lafiténia Beach draws experienced surfers during competitions held on its famous waves. The coastal path, which links Bidart to Socoa over 25 km, runs alongside our campsite, passes Erromardie Beach a little further north, and alternates beaches, coves and coastal tracks, with 7 orientation points to help you discover the landscape.
On site, you can enjoy water activities such as surfing, bodyboarding and board hire.
Our tips
“At low tide, Mayarco Beach widens and becomes ideal for little ones, while Lafiténia, 300 metres away, attracts experienced surfers during the best swells. We advise beginners to contact the surf schools nearby before venturing into the waves alone.“

A recognised environmental commitment
Committed to sustainable tourism, our campsite was awarded the Green Key label in 2003, then the EU Ecolabel in 2014, before receiving the sustainable tourism award in 2019. Electricity comes 100% from renewable sources, rainwater is collected and organic waste is composted on site. An insect hotel and wildflower meadows complete this approach, to preserve local biodiversity.
Our eco-friendly campsite has earned several official accreditations:
- Green Key label, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, obtained in 2003.
- EU Ecolabel, awarded according to European Commission criteria, obtained in 2014.
- Sustainable Tourism Trophy received by our site.
- Electricity sourced 100% from renewable energy.
The Merko Lacarra team’s view
“We grow our own vegetable garden and we use composted organic waste to feed our own vegetables. Our everyday actions—selective sorting, eco-labelled products and water management—are part of this same sustainable tourism approach, carried on for 4 generations.”
